Anisa Salmi Wins Fight to Have Private Photos Removed from “The Dirty”

A Vancouver woman has won her fight to remove nude photos her ex-boyfriend posted on the Internet.

Anisa Salmi was shocked when her friend told her the pictures were on a revenge website called The Dirty. The American site is known for embarrassing women and men through pictures and comments posted by other people.

UBC Masters graduate 27 year old Anisa Salmi says she went to the police when were learned private nude photographs were posted online by her ex-boyfriend after the relationship ended.

“They said that because I shared the photos willingly, pretty much implying it was my fault that this happened.”

Lawyers said the only option was to file civil action.

“The things that he said on the site is defamation, the fact that he posted by photos in breach of my privacy, the photos I shared with him are copyright photos, they belong to me.”

While the photos were eventually taken down, Salmi says more needs to be done to protect the rights of victims.
