British Columbia shoots selfie video as rescuers use Jaws of Life to cut him from crash

A Vancouver Island man involved in a solo car crash last month managed to take a “selfie” video of himself during the rescue, which involved the use of the Jaws of Life to extricate him from the wreckage.

Andrew Mac said he was driving home at 5.30am after a night out in Victoria, Canada, on 11 January when he fell asleep and crashed his car.

And with a smile on his face and wedged against one side of the car, Andrew turned the camera on himself as a fire crew, using the Jaws of Life, worked to get him free.

‘I can start feeling my legs now and it’s f***ing sore!’ he says, laughing.

Some YouTube users speculated that Andrew may have started a bizarre new trend, while another (very graciously) excused him for having ‘Vertical Video Syndrome’.

Andrew later listed his injuries in a post under the video:

‘Suffered a broken right arm. Broken left femur. Broke both knee caps. And both ankles. Major surgery took 14 hours of a couple days. Metal plates and screws all over. Spend a month in hospital. One hot nurse,’ he wrote.

Despite his range of injuries, he said he was doing well.

‘I’m home now. And recovering quickly!’
