Environment Canada has issued an updated weather statement for the region, warning of blizzard conditions with poor visibility in snow and blowing snow.

In fact there is a storm warning for Annapolis County and anywhere from 20 to 40 centimetres could drop in Southwest Nova Scotia..

Tonight could be chilly as temperatures drop from -13C at 11 p.m. to -15C. But with the windchill tonight, that could feel like -26C.

Then on Monday, the fun starts all over again as increasing cloudiness leads to snow at times heavy beginning early in the afternoon. Some forecasters are saying the storm could start earlier and reach Halifax by noon.

Environment Canada says the amount may possibly reach 15 centimetres. Blowing snow is forecast in the evening as winds become east 20 km/h gusting to 40 late in the afternoon then northeast 40 gusting to 60 in the evening. High is expected to be about -10C.

It will start to warm up on Tuesday but periods of snow will continue as will the wind. But it could reach a balmy -2C. Flurries can also be expected on Wednesday and Thursday before a mix of sun and cloud Friday.

Storm Warning

Following is the Environment Canada Winter Storm Warning for Annapolis County issued at 10:25 p.m. today:

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

A low pressure system will approach the Maritimes on Monday and cross eastern Nova Scotia on Tuesday. Latest computer guidance suggests that snow at times heavy will develop over southwestern Nova Scotia late Monday morning and spread northeastward during the day. Strong winds will accompany the snow giving reduced visibilities in blowing snow. Snow will change to rain across all counties along the Atlantic Coast, including Cape Breton, through the night monday. Rainfall amounts will range between 25 to 40 millimetres. A period of ice pellets and freezing rain is forecast during the transition from snow to rain. Snowfall amounts along the Atlantic coast are expected to be in the range of 10 to 15 centimetres. Snow at times heavy will persist across the remainder of the province where 20 to 40 centimetres are likely. Another brief shot of snow is expected Tuesday morning in the wake of the system. Conditions will gradually improve through the day on Tuesday as the low moves away.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
