Karine Rabay : Ottawa teen dead in U.S crash

A 14-year-old Canadian girl was killed and four family members were injured Sunday afternoon after their SUV overturned and rolled down a steep embankment, before coming to rest on the median, state police said.

Police say around 4:11 p.m., a 2010 Toyota Sequoia driven by Joseph M. Rabay, 50, of Ottawa, was northbound on I-81 when the vehicle went out of control on a slight curve.

The vehicle went straight from the driving lane across the passing lane and exited the west shoulder of the roadway, police say.

The vehicle then struck a guiderail, overturned down a steep embankment and came to rest upright in the median.

Karine Rabay, 14, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers, Colette Rabay, 44 and Joelle Rabay, 9, were airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse.

A front seat passenger, Salwa Rabay, 77, along with the driver were taken to University Hospital where they were treated and released.
