Checking the weather is one of the first things many people across the country do every morning, and the routine task is about to get a lot more accurate.
The federal government is investing $134 million to allow Environment Canada to make significant upgrades to monitoring networks and to weather warning and forecast systems.
Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq says weather warnings will be more accurate and faster to give more lead time to the public and weather sensitive business sectors such as agriculture, tourism and transportation.
The changes will warn Canadians of potentially life-threatening hazards and to allow people and businesses to plan properly.
There will also be an upgrade at the Canadian Lightning Detection Network.
