RCMP: Pedestrian killed on Highway 1 by semi tractor

RCMP have confirmed a man in his 50’s is dead after being hit by a tractor trailer near the Calaway Park turnoff, just west of Calgary.

Calgary and Cochrane emergency officials were called to the scene just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was pronounced dead when EMS arrived.

“There was a vehicle parked roadside,” Calahasen said. “We’re not sure if the vehicle had broken down. We’re not sure if he was trying to change a tire.”

The pedestrian’s name has not been released as family was being notified, Calahasen said.

Traffic was diverted around the accident scene for several hours.
