Thomas Brailsford : man who beheaded mother in custody

Toronto police say they have found a man who was deemed unlawfully at large when he failed to return after being out on an approved day pass from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

Thomas Brailsford, 54, was given a day pass to leave the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health on Monday morning, then failed to return to the Queen Street West campus.

When he was reported missing, police said they were concerned for his safety.

Due to the length of time he was out of care, police warned Wednesday afternoon that the public should not approach him, but instead call 911 immediately.

On Wednesday evening, police said he had been located and was back in custody.

Brailsford was charged with first-degree murder in 2010, after his 78-year-old mother Barbara Starkey-Brailsford was found beheaded in her west-end apartment.

He was found not criminally responsible for her death.
