Three bodies recovered from Joffre Peak north of Pemberton

Three ice climbers who were reported missing overnight have been found dead near Whistler, B.C., according to the RCMP.

The climbers were with a group of people trekking through the backcountry in the area of Joffre Mountain.

One of the victims was found by her husband. He then hiked out to get in contact with crews around 1:30 a.m.

The Mounties called in Pemberton Search and Rescue to assist.

The search started at first light; shortly after, the three bodies were found.

The climbers have not been identified, but police say they included a man and a woman, both in their thirties, from the Lower Mainland. Another woman in her late twenties was an international visitor.

They are believed to have been experienced in the backcountry.

Whistler Mounties are working with the BC Coroners Service to investigate the deaths.
