Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger have divorced, according to the “Complicated” singer’s Instagram post.
“It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today,” wrote the 30-year-old. “Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we’ve created many unforgettable moments.
“We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support.”
Her heartfelt message was accompanied by a photograph of the pair smiling on their wedding day, which took place on 1 July 2013 in the south of France.
Separation rumours have surrounded the Canadian couple for the past year, being further fuelled when Avril was spotted without her wedding ring.
A source told Us Weekly last year: “It’s over. He has been going around L.A. telling people that they are divorcing.”
The When You’re Gone hit maker has also been battling Lyme Disease, which she believes was brought on by a bug bite in 2014. She had also credited Chad with helping her through her health crisis.
In April Chad opened up for the first time about his wife suffering from the debilitating disease which left her bedridden for five months.
“I’m like, ‘OK the wife has come out and said this and now I don’t have to keep hiding,'” he said. “With everyone going, ‘What’s wrong with your wife?’, and me just going, ‘Ah, she’s going to be fine’, he said on tour in Australia.
