Daron Norwood, who placed two songs in the Top 40 during his peak in the ’90s, has passed away.
The singer was found unresponsive in his Hereford, Texas apartment.
The musician signed with Giant Records in the 1990s. The label is also home to country artists Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson and others.
Daron Norwood moved to Nashville in 1988. His top hits include “Cowboys Don’t Cry” and “If It Wasn’t For Her I Wouldn’t Have You,” both released in 1994 and featured in Billboard’s Top 100 hits.
Daron Norwood walked away from music in 1995 after releasing his second album. The singer struggled with alcohol abuse, but he was not done recording. He came back with an indie and gospel song in 2002 called “In God We Trust.”
According to The Associated Press, Hereford police said that investigators do not suspect foul in Norwood’s death. However, the cause of the death is still unconfirmed. His body was found by his landlord in the afternoon.
The landlord wanted to check up on Norwood after the singer came back from a night out with friends. Police say the body had no signs of trauma.
