Jem and the Holograms reboot film pulled from theaters ‘Report’

Jem and the Holograms, the Universal Pictures live action remake of the 1980s cartoon, has been pulled from theaters this week. The film has only been running for two weeks.

The live-action film version of the 80s cartoon is hardly in US cinemas any more, remaining in a total of about 50 locations, say Variety.

However they add that cinemas may simply have pushed the film out to make way for big budget films like Spectre and The Peanuts Movie.

With a budget of $5million, the totally outrageous flick grossed $2.2million last month.

Last month the director, John Chu, revealed he had been receiving death threats from people who weren’t happy with the film.

He said: ‘I get fans sending me hate mail, I get death threats, I get racist remarks – it’s a really fun business. Reviewers have been harsh, to say it lightly.’

He also admitted that his experience with the film was ‘not the greatest’.
Jem and The Holograms is out in the UK on February 12.

But this shouldn’t give Universal, the studio behind the release, too many sleepless nights. Their previous releases Fast and Furious 7, Jurassic World and Minions have all raked it in this year.

Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt, broke a world record by taking $1billion in just 13 days, making it the fastest film to reach the total. Fast and Furious 7 also managed to reach $1billion this year (although not as fast).
