Mayim Bialik, best known for her role in “The Big Bang Theory” has apparently slammed pop star Ariana Grande in a blog post on kveller.com.
Entitled “The Problem With That Giant Billboard of Ariana Grande,” the post goes into detail about her personal opinions about the sexual nature of the young musician’s image in the media.
“A few billboards I have seen lately really bug me,” she writes on Kveller:
There is one for Ariana Grande, and I will go ahead and admit I have no idea who she is or what she does. Based on the billboard, she sells lingerie. Or stiletto heels. Or plastic surgery because every woman over 22 wishes she has that body, I’m sure. Why is she in her underwear on this billboard though?
And if she has a talent (is she a singer?), then why does she have to sell herself in lingerie? I mean, I know that society is patriarchal and women are expected to be sexy and sexually available no matter what we do in society, but I guess now I need to explain that to my sons?
Bialik later admits, “Am I a crotchety old lady? I guess so. But I just don’t understand why this is what ads need to look like. What good does it do for humanity or society?”
“Why do I have to be OK with young women literally in lingerie on gigantic billboards?” asks the actress. “If I want to see women in lingerie, I can walk through any mall with a Victoria’s Secret.”

I love The Big Bang Theory but Mayim has a track record for sticking her foot in her mouth. She hasn’t been sexy a single day in her life. Grande is one of the few young stars trying to keep a sex appeal going while not taking it too far like Cyrus or Minaj. I also can’t stand Grande on the show, Sam and Cat but she DOES have singing talent and has stood up to her producers, managers etc when she felt like they were taking it too far.
I agree with Mayim… “Sex Appeal” is something you have… Or, don’t have… The “…(Y)oung stars trying to keep a sex appeal going…” are either confused or misinformed… Fact is, if you ‘need’ to have ‘sex appeal’ on display then it’s safe to assume the talent is lacking… And, if you have the talent, sex appeal will be of little help in becoming well known… Ask Barbra Streisand…
