Michael Jackson Estate Sued Over Legal Fees “Report”

Michael Jackson’s Estate Sued Over Legal Bill? Representatives for London-based law firm Atkins Thomson Solicitors claim lawyers provided legal services to the King of Pop from 2007 until 2009, and when Jackson’s business in the U.K. increased due to his planned 50-date residency at London’s O2 Arena, they “provided hundreds of hours of services to Jackson across nearly a dozen matters.”

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Atkins Thomson Solicitors is suing entertainment attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, who are the executors of Jackson’s estate, for violating a contract.

“Defendants have failed to honor Jackson’s obligations under, and has materially breached, the agreement with Atkins, and any implied covenants therein, by failing to make the payments as required,” Atkins’ attorney Stanton L. Stein wrote in the official complaint.

Atkins is claiming that it provided legal services to Jackson from 2007 to 2009 that they were not compensated for.

An invoice was submitted and left unpaid, with the defendants dismissing the invoice in writing in December 2015. Unfortunately, such loose ends don’t disappear until they are tied up, and this led to the suit filing this week.

“The Estate doesn’t believe the attorney’s claim for work allegedly done for Michael Jackson is valid and we intend to contest this lawsuit,” Howard Weitzman, the attorney representing the estate, said in a statement.
