Woohoo! The Simpsons renewed for record-breaking 29th & 30th seasons

The Simpsons will not go away anytime soon.

Fox announced that the TV network has ordered 29th and 30th seasons of the pop culture phenomenon the Simpsons. The renewal takes the long-running animated series to 669 episodes, the largest number of episodes for any scripted television show ever, breaking the record previously set by Gunsmoke, which had 635.

“Take that Gunsmoke! You lost a race you didn’t even know you were running!” Homer Simpson said in a celebratory statement yesterday.

Fox’s CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman said in a statement: “This is yet another record-setting moment for what is truly a landmark series.”

They added: “The Simpsons has meant so much to the network, the studio and everyone at Fox, and its continued cultural impact around the globe is a testament to the combined brilliance of [executive producers] Matt, Jim and Al.”

Executive producer James L. Brooks (“Jim”) recently spoke about the possibility of making a second Simpsons movie.

“Fox very much wants us to do another one, and maybe we will and maybe we won’t – that’s where it is,” he said. “How do we divide our labours, and do we believe in the idea we have? We may go into a more active exploration of a second movie soon.”
