Kraft Foods Recalls Velveeta Cheese, Report

If you have Velveeta cheese in the fridge, check the label. According to the Chicago Tribune, Kraft is recalling 32-ounce containers of the cheese after it was found that a specific batch didn’t contain enough preservatives.

In a release, the company explained that, while unlikely, insufficient levels of sorbic acid in the 260 recalled cases of Velveeta original pasteurized recipe cheese product could cause it to spoil before the best-by date or trigger food-borne illnesses in people who eat it.

Consumers are advised to check their labels, and the recalled products have the code “021000611614”, a date stamp that reads “17 DEC 2014″ and a timeframe of between 10:54 and 14:35. The case code can be found on the side of the package.

The insufficient levels were detected during an internal review of finished samples and Kraft Foods reports that they are working to prevent this error from being repeated.

Consumers should not eat any of the affected products, rather, they should return them to the store where they purchased them for an exchange or full refund. Consumers also can contact Kraft Foods Consumer Relations at 1-800-310-3704 between 9 am and 6 pm (Eastern).
