Michelle Jansen: Mother not hopeful ahead of report following son’s overdose while in treatment

Michelle Jansen, the mother of a young Coquitlam, B.C., man who died in a substance-abuse treatment centre says she doubts a third-party investigation into his death will hold anyone to account.

The privately-run Sunshine Coast Health Centre in Powell River is expected to release the results of a third-party investigation into Brandon Jansen’s death on Monday in Vancouver.

The 20-year-old from Coquitlam was being treated for an addiction to the powerful opiod fentanyl when he died at the facility on March 7th.

Jansen says text messages on Brandon’s phone show he arranged to have a dealer bring him drugs at the treatment centre hours before he overdosed and died alone in his room.

Michelle Jansen says the facility did not inform her about tomorrow’s announcement and she suspects the organization will minimize their involvement in her son’s death.

A public relations agency representing the centre declined to comment on Jansen’s allegations and a spokesman for the facility did not respond to requests for comment.
