A woman suffered an apparent shark bite to her leg while swimming in the Intracoastal Waterway off Fort Lauderdale.

Broward Health Medical Center officials said the woman was undergoing surgery late Sunday afternoon. According to a television report, she was later released.

On Sunday, 22-year-old Jessica Vaughn was inner tubing at the Intracoastal Waterway near Bayshore Drive when the supposed attack happened. She was off the boat in the water when she felt something bite her leg, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue says.

“I turned around when I heard the splash and I seen the fin caught her in the face,” friend Nick Russo said.

She got back on the boat and that’s when she saw the large bite mark on her leg, officials say.

“One side is all cut in and the other side you can see the teeth marks, I mean it’s a full, full bite mark,” friend Kyle Branston said.

Vaughn was rushed to a nearby dock where paramedics met her and transported her to Broward General Hospital for treatment. She is expected to make a full recovery.

“She’s doing good. she’s out of surgery, some muscle and tendon damage but they repaired everything and some stitches and she’ll be alright,” boyfriend Peter Hogge said.
