Bell to offer Fibe TV as a standalone service in early 2017 “Report”

Bell is breaking off its IPTV offering as a stand-alone service early next year.

This means the operator’s customers in Ontario and Quebec will no longer need to sign up for Fibe Internet to access its television services. The move is part of the ongoing alignment of Bell Canada and Bell Aliant IPTV services across eastern Canada.

Bell announced in July that it would integrate Bell Aliant’s FibreOP TV in Atlantic Canada with the Bell Fibe TV service available in Ontario and Quebec. In turn, Bell Fibe will be enhanced to operate without the need for a Fibe Internet connection for new customers by the end of the first quarter.

Bell plans to invest a further CAD 1 billion in 2016 to bring Fibe capability to 3 million homes and businesses in Atlantic Canada, Ontario and Quebec, up from 2.2 million at end 2015.
