Plasma TVs are just about dead, Report

Another tech bites the dust. Samsung announced last week that it would end its plasma TV business because of “change in market demands.” This follows Panasonic’s announcement last year that it also would cease plasma production.

LG, the last major producer of plasma televisions, is also slated to stop. The last shipments of plasma TVs in the U.S. will happen by the end of the year.

This is very good news for the HF spectrum, but will not reduce efforts to improve emission standards for frequencies below 30MHz.

The existing standards are based on conducted emissions at the connection ports of the apparatus – pressure has been building for many years now to have radiated emission test.

This will be an important step forward with so many new devices/ apparatus polluting the HF spectrum.

Work continues in CISPR to bring about this change, with radio amateurs leading the thinking.
