Pokemon Go Canada: Players can hire chauffeurs on Craigslist

If you’re having a hard time catching them all – a Pokemon chauffeur might be just what you need.

A dozen people have posted advertisements on Craigslist’s Vancouver site offering to drive players around as they use their smartphones to locate “augmented reality” Pokemon, PokeStops and Pokemon Gyms scattered across the Lower Mainland.

One UBC student offering his services says he posted an ad after seeing a similar service being offered in Baltimore.

For $25 per hour, the enterprising student will drive you around town in his VW Passat, and for a few extra bucks you can also purchase water and snacks.

The ad says all money will go to charity.

“I’ve been wanting to raise some money for the BC Cancer Foundation, and I thought this would be a perfect opportunity!” the ad reads.

If a Volkswagen isn’t your style, another ad offers trips in a “fresh ride”: a class 5 Mercedes for $40 per hour.

The driver, a recent UBC grad, says he and his girlfriend have just casually started playing the game, and they’re driving around town a lot anyways.

“With the rising popularity of Pokémon Go it seems like the best of both worlds,” he wrote.

Some chauffeurs are also listing perks, including phone chargers, and a knowledge of “hot spots.”

“If you’re serious about being a Pokémon master take it to the next level,” one ad reads.

Vancouver Police also released a series of tips on how to keep safety in mind while playing the game.

Look up – be aware of your surroundings. Are you about to step into traffic? Are you going to crash into someone or something? You could end more than just your game.

It is very easy for any stranger to know your gathering spots. Make sure you go with a group, and that younger kids tell parents or another adult where they’re going.

Say no to distracted game playing – don’t play while riding your bike, skateboard, scooter, or while driving.

Vancouver has lots of public space. Don’t go on or in private property.

In terms of using the recent chauffeur services, VPD Cst. Brian Montague says people “should remember that they are dealing with a complete stranger.”
