Good news for Wayne’s World fans out there: the original 1976 AMC Pacer used in the movie has been fully restored… and it will now be auctioned.

The Pacer’s body was brought down to bare steel and resprayed with the appropriate blue paint and the recognizable flame job. However, keen-eyed movie buffs will notice the flames don’t appear to be in the right spot. Sure, this could be a case of camera angles twisting reality, but the scenes from the film show the flames starting at the leading edge of the wheel opening. The car prepped for auction has the flames starting a few inches behind that spot — something hardly anyone will notice, but it raises other questions about the quality of the restoration.

Another goof? The addition of an in-dash CD player. While most folks wouldn’t mind the added convenience of having a CD version of Queen’s “A Night at the Opera” on infinite loop, stashing a CD player somewhere hidden would have added to the car’s on-screen authenticity.

Regardless of the mistakes, the Pacer still sports the unmistakable mismatched wheels and licorice dispenser, which should be enough to impress your friends. If the subtle changes make you think this wasn’t used on camera, the seller mentions that it still has the welded brackets for camera supports. That alone should allay your fears, but we suggest getting a certificate of authenticity before shelling out the cash.

The Mirth Mobile is lot 608 at this year’s Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction and might drum up enough ’90s nostalgia to bring big bucks.
