Cafe Owner : “Breastfeeding in public should not be an issue”

Cafe owner kicks out man for complaining about breastfeeding mum.

Jessica-Anne Allen, owner of Cheese and Biscuits Café in Queensland, Australia, has described how she was approached by a male customer in the café on Thursday to complain that he was upset by a woman in the coffee shop breastfeeding her child nearby.

Allen then took to Facebook to share the experience last Wednesday:

“We do not in anyway believe that to breast feed a baby is anything to be ashamed of and we will not ask customers to cover up. We would appreciate it if you would respect our choice and not ask our customers to cover up yourselves.”

Allen said a middle-aged man complained that there was a woman breast-feeding and asked to have her cover up, according to the Brisbane Times.

Allen told the man that they are a breast-feeding-friendly cafe. She said mothers and mom groups frequently meet there and breast-feed.

Allen said she let the man know there was plenty of room to sit elsewhere in the eatery.

Everything seemed fine. Until Allen delivered him his coffee.

That’s when the man informed Allen that he said something to the breast-feeding woman.

Allen said she would rather have him leave and put his coffee in a to-go container.

“It should never have been an issue in the first place because it is a form of adult bullying and is actually against the law to approach a breast-feeding mother and ask her to stop or cover up,” Allen said.
