Chantae Gilman : Seattle woman charged with rape of man

A Seattle woman has been charged with raping a man who told cops he awoke in his bed to find his attacker sexually assaulting him while she had his hands pinned down, according to a police report.

Chantae M. Gilman was being held in the King County Jail on $100,000 bail.

According to the Seattle Police Department’s investigation report, the 31-year-old victim, identified only as MO, lives in a duplex on 18th Avenue SW and did not know Gilman but “recognized her as a drug user in the area” who had visited another tenant in his duplex.

On June 16, 2013, the victim was at the other tenant’s home for his birthday and then returned home until 10 p.m., police said, when he fell into a deep sleep on his bed “due to a long day.”

At 2 a.m. on June 17, 2013, the police report says, MO was awakened with Gilman on top of him and having sexual intercourse with him.

The victim told Gilman to get off of him, police said, but Gilman refused and told him to be quiet. The victim “was able to work his way out from underneath” Gilman and told her to leave. When she refused, he pushed her outside of his home.

She finally left and later that day the victim went to Harborview Medical Center for a sexual assault examination, police said.

DNA tests led to the defendant’s arrest on Aug. 15, 2014.

When police interviewed Gilman, the report says, she denied knowing MO but knew and had visited his neighbor in the other duplex. She said she didn’t recall being at MO’s home or having sex with him. She said she has a mental illness and suffers from bipolar disorer and psychosis, police said.

A DNA test showed that Gilman’s DNA had been on the victim’s body.

Gilman has prior felony convictions for possession of a stolen vehicle and attempted robbery.
