Teen sentenced to walk 30 miles for not paying cab fare.

An eccentric judge found a different way to punish a teen who stiffed her taxi driver out of a $100 fare for a 30 mile cab ride.

Painesville Judge Michael Cicconetti sentenced 19-year-old Virctoria Bascom after she was found guilty of theft, Cicconetti’s secretary Diane Armstrong told ABC News.

Bascom’s cab ride was from Cleveland to Painesville which is about 30 miles. After arriving at her destination, she left the cab without paying.

When choosing between 30 days in jail or a 30 mile walk, Bascom chose to take the walk. She completed part of the walk, which had to be done in 48 hours, this past weekend.

“I’ve never been to jail and I don’t want to go to jail,” Bascom told 8News. “I’m kind of upset about this sentence, you know, ’cause I’m thinking I was going to go in and just have to pay a fine — I guess only a 100 dollars or whatever.”

“I almost ended up getting jail time, so I guess I’m kind of lucky he gave me this option.”

Cicconetti reduced the sentence to 20 miles after seeing Bascom was likely not going to finish the 30 mile walk in 48 hours.

Along with Bascom’s walk, she will be on probation for the next four months, and she has to pay $100 restitution to the driver she stiffed, Ciconnetti said.
