A firsthand account of Honey Boo Boo‘s recent visit with Jimmy Fallon sounds almost nothing like what Tonight Show viewers were presented.
Christy O’Shoney, a writer for Salon who was in the audience during the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo stars’ taping Wednesday, explains “from where I was sitting, Honey Boo Boo — let’s not mince words — was a tiny, dimpled monster.”
The New York Daily News reported that Honey Boo Boo refused to give Fallon a friendship bracelet, which brought laughs from Mama June in the edited version of the broadcast.
However, according to O’Shoney, Honey Boo Boo refused to give Fallon a friendship bracelet several times in the unedited version.
O’Shoney also says there was tension between Honey Boo Boo and Mama June, who was constantly answering questions for her star child and feeding her answers.
O’Shoney claims that Honey Boo Boo was annoyed and hit Mama June, which caused Fallon to yell, “Never hit your mother!” This unaired incident caused the studio audience to loudly applaud.
In the edited version that aired, Fallon gives Honey Boo Boo some small pompoms and asks her to lead the audience in a cheer.
O’Shoney described Honey Boo Boo as “visibly troubled, disrespectful and defiant.” However, thanks to NBC’s editing, O’Shoney says the child star appeared as “precocious,” “sassy,” and “confident.”
