The RCMP says a four-month long child pornography investigation lead to the rescue of five children under the age of 10.
Officers announced Thursday that the national campaign zeroed in on alleged sex offenders and wound up leading to 343 charges being laid.
The news was delivered in Halifax with investigators saying the case reached clear across the country, involving every province and 40 different police agencies. Officials say 150 people were arrested or are under investigation.
“There’s 5 children that have been saved in total. Two from British Columbia, one from Ontario, one from Quebec and one from New Brunswick. All of them were pre-pubescent children.”
More than 1 million images and videos depicting children were seized in the bust.
Resch added that even though the children may not be from Canada, they still treat them as if they are.
“In the cases where there are abuses taken place, there might be some images of those children that are located in those areas. However, when it comes to analyzing the images by themselves, we look at every child as being a child that belongs to a Canadian family.”
