A 34-year-old Bear man was hospitalized after being struck by a car driven by his wife, whom he was teaching how to drive, state police said Monday.
The incident occurred about 8:32 p.m. in the parking lot of the DMV off U.S. 13 near Delaware City, said Sgt. Paul Shavack.
The man lost his balance and fell after getting out of their 2006 Honda Civic to remove a traffic cone that had become lodged beneath the car’s front end during his wife’s test run, Shavack said.
His wife stepped on the accelerator, the car struck him and he was pinned underneath, he said.
A state police helicopter took the man to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Shavack said. His condition was unknown.
Charges in the case have not been filed, although state troopers are continuing to investigate the incident.
Shavack could not confirm whether the woman proceeded to take or pass her driving test.
