Western Canada High School sports teams will now be known as the Redhawks.
The old name has been a point of contention for decades, especially with it’s logo. Some believed a First Nations logo, and the name wasn’t right.
After a year long consultation which involved past and present students as well as the community and faculty the committee narrowed the choice down to five, which also included the Wild and the Rockies, before they went with the Redhawks.
It does allow the school to stick with it’s colour scheme of red and white, but it will also cost about $200,000, for replacing the gym floor and jerseys.
