Calgary police confident they will find missing boy and grandparents

The Calgary Police report they have received a number of tips on the disappearance of five-year old Nathan O’Brien and his grandparents Kathryn and Alvin Liknes after the family issued a plea for information on Wednesday afternoon.

Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus said everyone remains optimistic as the investigation continues.

“We’re very confident we are going to find these family members,” he said. “These people disappeared under suspicious circumstances, we know that, but again, we are keeping an open mind and we’re hoping we find them alive.”

He also said in the last 24 hours, it has become ‘less of a mystery’ to police, but wouldn’t say to what degree.

“We have no suspects that we can name, but we do have information to move our investigation forward,” added Andrus.

Police are also hoping to generate some new leads this, as they ask anyone who attended an estate sale at the Liknes’ home in the 100 block of 38A Avenue Southwest over the weekend to come to the Parkhill Community Centre.

“We don’t know how many people attended the estate sale on June 28th and 29th,” Andrus said. “We are encouraging anyone who attended the sale and purchased an item to come down to the availability.”

So far, around 20-30 people have attended and have provided finger-prints so they can be eliminated as suspects. Investigators will be at the centre until 10 Wednesday night.

Andrus said they have looked at closed circuit TV, but can’t confirm if they saw the family on tape.
