Police have released CCTV footage showing the moment a child in a buggy on a London Underground platform was blown onto the track by a gust of wind.

A gust of wind from a departing train appears to pull the buggy across the platform and onto the tracks. The woman rushes on to the live track and hauls the buggy and the child back on to the platform.

The incident occurred on the during the evening on 23 July, but the footage has only just been released.

People were quick to point out on social media that a bystander on the platform did nothing to help the child or the couple.

“This was a frightening incident, not just for the scale of the danger the child was exposed to, but also because the woman then put her own life on the line by going on to the tracks,” chief inspector Mark Lawrie told the BBC.

Police say they are still trying to get in touch with the couple involved in order to ensure that both the woman and child are uninjured.

London Underground has warned the public to be aware of powerful gusts of wind that can blow objects on to the tracks.
