Two die in ambulance plane crash in New Brunswick

A paramedic and pilot are dead after a chartered plane crash on Grand Manan Island, N.B., Ambulance New Brunswick said Saturday.

Ambulance New Brunswick says in a news release the Atlantic Charters aircraft crashed in a wooded area near the Grand Manan Airport around 5 a.m. Saturday.

The plane was returning to the island following a patient transfer from the Grand Manan Hospital to the Saint John Regional Hospital.

The release says two pilots, an Ambulance New Brunswick paramedic and registered nurse from the Grand Manan Hospital, were on board the plane.

Ambulance New Brunswick says the paramedic and one of the pilots was killed, while the second pilot and nurse survived.

There was no patient on board at the time of the crash.

Paul Ward, the interim president at Ambulance New Brunswick, say it’s too early to say what caused the crash.
