HOUSTON, TX- The Houston Zoo welcomes its latest addition, as a baby giraffe makes its debut Friday.
The giraffe which was born on August 3rd joined the giraffe herd at the zoo, frolicking around to the delight of onlookers.
Her mother, Neema, and father, Mtembei are both seven years old.
“They are definitely a threatened species, their numbers in the wild are dwindling, so having babies is always a good thing,” said keeper Kim Siegl.
“Her mom is only a second-time mom and her first one did not survive, unfortunately,” she added.
Ms Siegl revealed that Kamili is already displaying a strong personality:
“We’re still at the point where we are weighing her every single day and so sometimes when we go in to encourage her onto the scale, she’ll throw a little bit of an attitude at us and throw some hooves around.
“So that’s kind of fun, that she’s already got some spunk to her.”
