The Surrey RCMP is issuing a warning after a 9-year-old girl was reportedly lured through her bedroom window and sexually assaulted on a nearby park bench.
Sergeant Dale Carr says she was taken to a nearby park which is where the apparent crime took place. “The little girl was then taken to one of the nearby homes near the park, put in the backyard and told to wait there. The male left and when she saw the opportunity she ran to her home and sought help from her mother. That’s when the police became involved.”
The girl was then taken to hospital while she’s been receiving care.
It happened at around 10:40 p.m. near 99 Avenue and 128th Street.
No suspect description has been released and police are speaking with people in the neighbourhood to see if anyone saw anything suspicious.
They are also warning people to lock your doors and windows. “We’re suggesting that although it’s warm out and people may not have their windows open as far. Secure the windows with a stick or a metal bar.”
Carr says at this point this does not appear to be connected to the South Surrey sex assault on August 18th or the White Rock incident prior to that.
Anyone with more information is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
