Bruce : Manitoba monster mosasaur biggest on display

The Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre in Morden now has the Guinness World Record’s largest mosasaur on display anywhere in the world. That confirmation just came in.

The museum said research compared Bruce with other examples of the mosasaur and found Bruce ruled the pack at just over 13 metres in length.

“Once our research confirmed the size we immediately started thinking about pursuing a world record,” said CFDC executive director Peter Cantelon in a news release. “We submitted all of our research … and were thrilled to have it confirmed. It is great for people to be able to come and see something here in Morden that cannot be seen anywhere else on the planet. It’s great for Manitoba and it’s great for Canada.”

Cantelon said Morden’s mosasaur “represents the largest and most ferocious of marine predators from the late Cretaceous period 80 million years ago. With four sets of terrifying and enormous teeth the mosasaur is sometimes referred to as the Sea-Rex because of its status as top predator.”
