Chrysler recalls SUVs due to fuel pump problem, Report

Chrysler has issued a recall for around 189,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durano vehicles in the U.S. after reports that the SUVs can stall due to faulty fuel pumps.

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2011 Dodge Durango with a 3.6-liter V6 or 5.7-liter V8 engine are being recalled due to a possible failure in the fuel pump. A contact spring can malfunction due to the heat caused by contact power, ambient temperature around the fuel pump relay, and battery voltage, which can result in a no start or a stall condition. Chrysler says “If the vehicle stalls, the vehicle maintains power and functionality for certain features, such as hazard indicators, seat belt pretensioners and airbags.”

The SUV’s effected by this were manufactured from January of 2010 till July of 2011.

Chrysler will notify owners, and the dealers will replace the fuel pump relay with a new relay free of charge.

Dealers will start replacing the fuel pump October 24th.
