Texas – Crews recovered the body of Senior Deputy Jessica Hollis Friday afternoon after two days of extensive searching on land, on the water and in the air.
Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton became emotional when announcing that divers had found her body, saying he was determined to “bring her home.”
Hollis, a seven-year veteran of the department, was checking low-water crossings in an Austin-area subdivision during storms early Thursday when she radioed for help.
Her empty car was found a short time later, but she could not be located.
Boats with divers, helicopters and search-and-rescue dogs were involved in the effort to find her Friday.
Hollis worked in the department’s patrol and vice units, and was a member of the dive team.
Dozens of searchers were focusing Friday on Lake Austin and connected waterways, a county EMS commander said.
Parts of the lake were closed to boat traffic during the search.
Storms before nightfall Thursday forced authorities to suspend the search temporarily.
The National Weather Service forecasts more heavy rain through Saturday over much of West Texas and through Friday in Southeast Texas.
