A firefighter who was electrocuted by a power line as he helped a marching band to take the ALS ice bucket challenge has died.
Investigators said Grider was in the bucket of an aerial ladder truck and was shocked when energy from a nearby power line arced to the bucket.
Grider and 22-year-old Simon Quinn, were airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. Quinn has since been released and is recovering at home.
Two other firefighters suffered less severe injuries. Steve Marrs and Alex Johnson were transported to Taylor Regional Hospital where they were treated.
Eric Johnson with Supporting Heroes released the following statement:
“It is with deep regret we notify you of the line-of-duty death of Campbellsville, Kentucky Fire Captain Tony Grider.
Captain Grider succumbed to injuries sustained 30 days earlier when he received a high-voltage electric shock during an “ALS ice water challenge” at Campbellsville University.
