Denzel Washington’s ‘The Equalizer’ Nabs $12.6 Million Friday, Report

With a solid showing Saturday, the Denzel Washington shoot-em-up The Equalizer was bound for a better-than-expected debut this weekend, flirting with a $35 million bow for Sony Pictures.

The Boxtrolls and The Maze Runner are fighting for second place, with both films on pace for about $17 million.

Ensemble comedy This Is Where I Leave You is targeting $8 million and the #4 spot.

Dolphin Tale 2 ($5 million) should edge A Walk Among the Tombstones ($4.5 million) and No Good Deed ($4 million) for fifth place.

The #8 spot should belong to blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy, which is tracking toward $3.5 million.

Let’s Be Cops and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should round out the Top 10 with roughly $1.5 million apiece.
