An Australian woman charged after falsely claiming to be sex trafficking and exploitation victim has been identified by Calgary Police as 26-year old Samantha Lyndell Azzopardi.
Calgary Police have taken the unusual measure of releasing the woman’s photo in an effort to determine movements of the accused while she was in Calgary prior to her arrest.
Police say back on September 16th a woman walked into a northeast health centre, and claimed she was 14 and the victim of abduction and prolonged sexual assault.
She was taken to hospital for treatment and Calgary Police were called in.
Using a false name, Aurora Hepburn the woman told investigators she had endured years of violent sexual abuse and torture.
Last week during the investigation police were notified of a similar case last year in Ireland where the claims were found to be fake.
Now police have determined the woman in Calgary is the same person charged in Ireland.
