Australian beaches closed after shark attacks inflatable canoe

Beaches at Dunsborough remain closed after two men in an inflatable were attacked by a shark there on Saturday.

The pair were near Castle Rock when a shark attacked and punctured their boat just after 5pm, the ABC reported on its website.

According to the Australian Shark Attack File, kept by researchers at Sydney’s Taronga Conservation Society, there have been 974 shark attacks in Australia since records began.

Of those 230 have been fatal and 576 sustained serious injuries.

The latest data reveals New South Wales recorded 203 shark attacks and Queensland has recorded 159.
