A steady supply of crystal methamphetamines kept Adolf Hitler awake while he was leading Nazi Germany during World War II, The New York Daily News reported on Tuesday.
A new Channel 4 show will reveal how American military put together a 47-page report about Hitler, which said he was a hypchondriac and took 74 different medications.
Hitler is believed to have taken the drug before an infamous meeting with Italy’s leader Benito Mussolini in 1943, when he ranted at his fellow dictator for two hours without stopping.
The report also reveals the Fuhrer was injected with the drug nine times during his final days in a Berlin bunker.
Hitler was also given medication to cure stomach cramps and a testosterone-boosting drug containing bull semen.
But the programme will dispel a myth about him only having one testicle.
The pill containing crystal meth was called Pervitin and was prescribed by his doctor, Dr Theodor Morell.
Bill Panagopoulos, an American collector who discovered the dossier, said: “Morell was a quack and a fraud and a snake oil salesman.
“He should not have been practising medicine anywhere outside a veterinary clinic.”
Crystal methamphetamine, or crystal meth, was the drug at the centre of Emmy-award winning TV series Breaking Bad.
The series showed lead character Walter White’s journey from high school teacher to meth manufacturer.
Hitler’s Hidden Drug Habit is on Channel 4 at 8pm on October 19.
