Ashley Gardner : Mom recovering after emergency surgery to save quadruplets

Ashley Gardner made the news recently after she found out she would be delivering two sets of identical twins in December. However, Gardner underwent and emergency surgery this week to keep her quadruplets alive.

The condition occurs when there is a blood supply imbalance between identical twins that share a placenta. The condition can be harmful to both twins by receiving too much or too little fluid.

“It went great,” the couple posted on their Facebook page. “Dr. Chmait smiled and said, ‘This has been a good day!’ Our tears have been replaced with relief and continue to pray for the babies safety and continued ‘baking’ for a good long time! Ashley will be put on bed rest from here on out. The doctor just came out and said the babies are cured of twin to twin transfusion … he said that part couldn’t have gone better!”

The couple’s story went public after a friend captured Ashley’s reaction to learning she was pregnant with quadruplets and posted the photos online. Since then, the couple has kept the public informed of the babies’ progress. The four girls are due in December, but for now, Ashley and Tyson are hoping to get the babies to 28 weeks gestation, when they can safely deliver them.

“Thank you for your kind messages over the past week it helped them more than you will ever know!!” a friend posted on their website, noting that the couple was back home in Utah.
