A woman was killed and a man was injured after police say an allegedly impaired driver hit them in Newmarket early Sunday morning.
York Regional Police said the woman and a 38-year-old man were struck as they crossed Yonge Street at Dawson Manor Boulevard around 12:30 a.m.
Police said the driver of the vehicle may have run a red light.
The man and woman were both rushed to hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead.
The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A 37-year-old Newmarket man has been charged with impaired driving in the fatal incident, police said. He’s expected to make a court appearance today.
