When second-year law student Derek Murray left the headlights on all day Wednesday in his silver Acura, he returned to his parked car to find the battery drained and a note on his windshield.
But the letter informed him that he might not be able to start his car, so the author left a battery and extension cord nearby, with instructions on how to use them.
His faith in humanity affirmed, Murray later posted the note on his Facebook page, and a friend posted it to Reddit, where it ranked at the top of the site’s front page on Thursday, according to Global News.
The note also showed up on Imgur, where it had nearly 1,500,000 views as of Friday night.
“If karma was a person I’d totes high five them right now,” Murray wrote on his Facebook.
The Good Samaritan’s identity hasn’t been made public, but Murray has tried stopping by his house to say thank you, The Edmonton Journal reported.
And he’s not the only one who wants to reward the stranger’s kindness. A company contacted the law student saying it would like to offer the man free tickets to an Edmonton Oilers game.
“It just shows you how such a pure act of kindness from one person can just spread through everyone and help make everyone’s day a little brighter,” Murray told the Journal.
