Chicago Teen claims he was fired for having cancer, A 19-year-old delivery driver at a Chicago restaurant was allegedly fired because he needed extended time off work to undergo major surgery for a rare form of brain cancer.
The young man says there is really just one thing he would like from his former employer.
Jonathon Larson says he’s fighting every day of his life.
“I have cancer of the brain and spine,” said Jonathon.
The 19 year old says just standing with for a few minutes can be painful.
Radiation weakens his spine and already weak bones
But he wants to explain what happened to him when he told his employer- Rosebud – that he had to take six weeks off for back surgery.
“He said, ‘So you’re going to leave me high and dry like that,’” said Jonathon.
Jonathon was a delivery driver at the Naperville restaurant, he says when he offered to come back to work afterward, he was told to leave.
“He said, ‘No by that time I’ll already have another driver hired. Just leave. I have to make some phone calls,’” said Jonathon. “I’m really disappointed and saddened by it. It’s not something I can help, treated disrespected and demeaned.”
A Rosebud spokesperson said in a statement Friday that they can’t comment on specific personnel matters.
They “are thoroughly investigating this matter to determine if our processes and protocols were appropriately followed Rosebud proudly serves the Chicagoland community and considers it our mission to treat all employees fairly.”
But Jonathon says it wasn’t fair at all.
Jonathon says he only wants one thing.
“I would love an apology,” said Jonathon. “It would go a long way to make me feel better about the situation.”
