Japan : Giant Lego Man washes up on Japanese beach

A giant Lego man has washed ashore in Japan, a very strange sight to see for those who spotted the plastic man on the beach.

The 8ft figure washed up on Yuigahama beach earlier this week and was spotted at dawn by surfer Tatsuya Hirata.

The Lego man was wearing blue trousers and a red top bearing the cryptic message ‘no real than you are’ on the front and the name Ego Leonard on the back.

This isn’t the first time Ego’s been spotted though. Similar figures with the same message have been washing up at different locations over several years.

Ego made it to Brighton in 2008, Zandvoort in The Netherlands in 2007, and was last seen in Sarasota, Florida in 2011.

But, with a little digging, things become slightly clearer.

There is a Dutch artist who works under the name of Ego Leonard and has a fondness for giant Lego people. It is suspected whoever is behind these works has also been making the giant figures.

Giant Ego tends to appear in areas currently hosting exhibits by the artist Ego, so it would appear to be a little guerrilla marketing.

Whatever it means, they make for pretty amazing beach chairs.
