A 38-year-old Calgary man has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of his common-law wife who was reported missing in 2012.
In a release on Saturday, Calgary police said they had taken Allan Shyback into custody after human remains were found inside a southeast Calgary home.
Shyback and the couple’s two children were living in the home at the time.
Mitchell’s mother, who worked with her daughter at the Twin Cities Hotel in Longview, reported her missing in 2012.
One of their co-workers said that the situation is heartbreaking. “Lisa was here working just a few days before she disappeared. It’s heartbreaking, it’s absolutely heartbreaking. I can’t even imagine.”
A neighbour of the couple in Ogden, Sheila Weston, says she is very shaken up by the discovery. “Me heart goes out to Peggy and the kids. They don’t have parents anymore.”
Police say they had responded to the home prior to Lisa’s disappearance following reports of a domestic incident. No charges were laid in connection to the investigation into the event which police referred to as minor.
