Three people, including a newly-wed couple, have died following a two-vehicle collision in central Alberta.

STARS Air Ambulance, RCMP and other emergency crews were called to Highway 11, about 30 kilometers west of Sylvan Lake, just before 3:00 p.m.

Mounties confirm one female and two male passengers were killed when a Mustang slid on ice and was hit by a truck.

The driver was flown to an Edmonton hospital by Stars.

Travelers in the car were foreign workers, from the Philippines, returning to Rocky Mountain House after language training in Red Deer.

Police are notifying family members, overseas, and Rocky Victim Services have been called in.

The driver and passenger of the 5 ton semi truck were not injured.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
