[fwdevp preset_id=”8″ video_path=”BqZUcQD7Q4s”]Johnson County Sheriff Steve Kozisek confirmed that Richard L Fipps was wounded after his dog stepped on a loaded rifle in the back of his pickup truck.
The rifle’s safety was off and the gun and accidentally fired it, shooting Mr Fipps in the left arm, reports the Huffington Post.
“The rifle was loaded and in the bed of the truck, and the dog hopped up there and either stepped on it or caused something to move and set it off,” said Sheriff Kozisek.
And he said the accident could easily have been avoided: “Carrying a loaded rifle in a truck is never a good idea, safety on or safety off.”
Big Horn Mountain Radio reported that Mr Fipps was removing snow chains from his truck when he was shot.
He was rushed to Sheridan Memorial Hospital in an ambulance. His condition was not released, but his injuries were said not to be life threatening.
