Doctors had to perform an emergency C-section after a man and his pregnant girlfriend crashed separately into a building in northwest Houston overnight.
It happened at Beltway 8 at Hammerly. The impact of the crash ejected the woman from the truck she was in.
Investigators said the couple had an argument and got into separate vehicles around 2 a.m.
They were heading south along the Beltway feeder when one vehicle hit the other. Both drivers lost control and slammed into the auto services facility.
Monica Ramirez, 25, was thrown from the Dodge Ram truck. She was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition with a traumatic brain injury. Doctors were unable to save her and she died a few hours after the accident. The newborn is in the neonatal intensive care unit.
“I don’t know what to think. It’s terrible,” said Donald Stanley, whose business lost power after the crash.
The boyfriend, 24-year-old Anton Aleksandrov, was treated and released from Memorial Hermann Hospital.
At last check, no charges had been filed.
Ramirez got a protective order against Aleksandrov in August and accused him of kicking, stomping and dragging her, according to records. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to probation.
